I’m Sarah Smoot. I am a pastor in the United Methodist Church, serving two churches in Tuscaloosa, Alabama: Druid Hills United Methodist and Holt United Methodist. That means I get to preach twice every Sunday! (among other aspects of ministry on all the days of the week).
I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, have lived in several other states during my adult life, including Wisconsin (no, I did not like winter there, but summers were beautiful), and I’m happy to now live back in my home state. Tuscaloosa is very different from Birmingham (Roll Tide!), but it is a good place to live.
My strong interests and abilities are dance and the Spanish language. I bring both of these into ministry as much as possible.
I am married to Tyler Smoot. We met in seminary in 2011 (Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina). We pursue love of each other, God, and our neighbors every day. Tyler is a musician, and we enjoy the arts together — making them and seeing what others have made.
This blog is for “sound bites” from my weekly sermons. More on that here.
