The Prayer on the Mount

Right in the middle of Jesus’ biggest teaching moment, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches the Lord’s Prayer. He didn’t call it that, of course; He just said, “Pray like this…”

The Lord’s Prayer is key for understanding, and living, the life into which Jesus invites us with this great sermon.

Over the next four weeks the Gospel lessons on the common lectionary include the first half of the Sermon on the Mount. As I preach from these lessons, I am doing so with the Lord’s Prayer as my guide. Each week has a theme from the words of the prayer that Jesus taught at the center of his sermon.

Week 1: Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (01/29/2017)

Week 2: Hallowed be your name. (02/05/2017)

Week 3: Forgive us, as we forgive. (02/12/2017)

Week 4: Lead us not into temptation. (02/19/2017)
